James Mottola

Senior Managing Director

James Mottola brings over three decades of experience in law enforcement, investigations, and business development to his role as Senior Managing Director at Colley Intelligence. His distinguished career includes 26 years with the United States Secret Service, culminating as the Special Agent in Charge of the Newark, New Jersey office.

During his tenure with the Secret Service, James held various significant roles. He started in the New York Field Office and spent nearly five and a half years on the Presidential Protective Division, ensuring the safety of the President under strict confidentiality. His career also took him to Phoenix and Frankfurt, Germany, where he was the Resident Agent in Charge, overseeing operations across 14 countries. James has been in leadership roles since 2001, demonstrating his expertise in managing complex security and investigative operations globally.

In addition to his field experience, James served as an instructor at the Secret Service Training Division in Washington, DC, where he developed training programs for new agents. His leadership extended to major events such as the Super Bowl, where he was appointed Deputy Federal Coordinator by the Secretary of Homeland Security.

After retiring from the Secret Service, James transitioned to the private sector, bringing his vast experience in security and investigations to various roles. As Vice President of Data Privacy, Investigations, and Security at Porzio Compliance Services, he led multidisciplinary teams handling sensitive administrative, civil, and criminal investigations. His work involved addressing workplace violence, cybercrime, and policy violations, among other issues. James also served as the Director of Forensic Accounting Investigations at Sobel & Co., where he investigated financial fraud and embezzlement on a global scale.

Jim is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Information Security Manager (CISM). His academic background includes a Master of Science in Business Administration from Saint Elizabeth University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Whittier College.
